Small Actions Equal Big Rewards

Once again Joyce and Ray Simonsen from Harlingen, Texas were able to bring baseball equipment donations when they recently visited friends in Drago, Kitty and Pat Wade. This makes their third trip to Bocas where they have been able to give youth baseball gear to both the Boca del Drago and Colonia Santeno schools. And this time there was also some softball gear in the mix.

If you are headed out to Drago on a Friday morning, you might be lucky enough to see the teachers at the shool coaching their young students in a game of baseball. They are using the equipment that Joyce, a practicing CPA, has been able to obtain from the Pony and Little leagues back in Harlingen. The Santeno children have to use the field in Bambu on the weekends. Local Bambu parents are coordinating those efforts.

In addition to all the young happy faces receiving youth baseball equipment, Joyce was able to make contact with NIKE and bring some much needed adult equipment to the Boca del Drago team. One photo shows the presentation (and associated smiles) that was made during an adult team’s weekend home game at the Drago field.

Joyce and Ray love being able to help out the baseball players here on this side of Isla Colon, both younger and older, and are planning another trip soon. They say that their garage is running out of space due to the donated equipment. The logistics of getting it here is another story; however they say they don’t mind paying the extra baggage fees in order to see all the smiling faces.

If you would like to help with the cost of logistics for these donations in the future, please contact The Bocas Breeze at
