Food and Arts Festival October 30 – Raising Money for 100 Public Trash Cans

Unidos por Bocas (United for Bocas) is currently working with the local government to provide the islands of Bocas del Toro with 100 new public trash bins. You can read the whole story in the November issue of the Bocas Breeze; but first thing’s first: fund raising efforts! Unidos for Bocas is putting on a “Food and Art Festival” in the park on October 30th.

Here is a post from Unidos por Bocas member Linda Gillingham explaining the event and how you can help:

“Hi everyone! Remember we’re holding the first Food & Art Fair on Sunday, 30th at the Bolivar park in Bocas town, from 11am – 6pm. Music and entertainment is free, arts for sale and a $5 ticket will give you five samples of food that is being kindly donated by many people from different cultures and cuisines. The money raised will go towards buying 100 trash bins/cans for the town which the mayor has committed to collecting the trash. The mayor has also committed $3,000 from the airport tax towards the trash bin fund.
Anyone can donate in $ or time as a volunteer to help on the day. This is for our community, to teach those who don’t know better that we can live in a clean town and be proud of it! Come & join in and have some fun.”

Food, art and music and all in the effort to keep Bocas beautiful with 100 new public trash cans?  The Bocas Breeze will sure be representing in the park on October 30th!  And we’re definitely going to be sponsoring one of the trash cans, which any business can do (or any person, for that matter).  For $120 a year, you can sponsor a trash bin with your business’ logo.  These efforts, along with support from the municipality and the October 30th fund raising efforts will go to a cleaner Bocas with 100 new places to discard those everyday things you don’t necessarily want to hold onto as a souvenir.
