Support These Bocas del Toro Causes on Giving Tuesday 2023!

Giving Tuesday started as a global generosity movement in 2012 to encourage people to give, after two days of shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and has turned into the largest day of giving worldwide! In the U.S. alone on Giving Tuesday 2022, over $3 Billion was donated in a twenty-four hour period by over 37 million people!

Today is the perfect time to give a quick overview of a few of the amazing nonprofits having a profound impact in our local communities! In light of the recent strikes and road closures, the needs of our local community are greater than ever. Children are out of school because teachers cannot afford higher boat fares to get to remote island villages, food prices are soaring, and people are out of work as tourism has rapidly declined. Fortunately, there are some great organizations helping to close these gaps and help those most in need!

Give and Surf

Since 2011, Give and Surf has been empowering the local indigenous and Afro-Caribbean communities through education and community development. Their free educational programs and services include preschool & kindergarten, after-school, summer camp, English classes, school lunch program, university scholarships, school transportation, and, most recently, a vocational hospitality training program. Caribbean Coral Restoration

For the last eight years Caribbean Coral Restoration has been practicing coral recovery and rescue in the Bocas del Toro Archipelago. A major part of that program has been the development of habitat for the local fisheries. Employing and educating the community most affected to help recover the local fish populations to a state of sustainability using applied science is one of our primary goals. There has been a positive impact on total biodiversity and marine life population in these development areas. Their immediate need is to complete the on-land Seed Bank Nursery where we can save and protect the endangered corals of the archipelago. To help make a difference: DONATE HERE
