Five nights and over 30 hours of live music are coming to a tiny Caribbean island in Bocas del Toro. The Lost Boys Blues Bar on Isla Carenero will play host to this season’s newest and boldest event:

RocktoberFest. The first of its kind, it will take place on Oct. 30,31, Nov. 1,3 and 4. The music festival brings seasoned blues rocker, Andy Egert, all the way from Switzerland. Egert has been coming to Panama for years to perform at Boquete’s annual Jazz & Blues Fest. People are already excited to have RocktoberFest be for Bocas del Toro what the February Jazz & Blues Fest is for Boquete.  (Español abajo)

“The idea is to get rock and roll lovers together, support the local music scene and attract new visitors to Bocas del Toro. We’re working to making it an annual destination event,” says Eric Veenstra, the Creative Director of the Festival. “We would also like to see other venues in the Bocas area become additional platforms for the Performance Arts during the Festival. In addition, we’re working with various resorts around the archipelago to host our Panama National and International guests.”

Also head-lining the event is local legend Cheto Smith. The Isla Colon native has long been revered on the islands for his soulful renditions of Eric Clapton, Gypsy Kings and The Eagles; to name a few. He will be performing as a solo act, as well as with The Lost Boys Blues Band, an international group of musicians living in Bocas del Toro, who “just don’t wanna grow up” and love to play rock and blues.

The festival also features many other local rockers performing in English, Spanish and French, making it a colorfully mufti-cultural musical experience. RocktoberFest is not limited to the sounds of rock guitars. In the Caribbean, salsa and calypso will always rock the house.  Other local bands on the bill are Juicy Cake, Perro Vivo, The Little Big Band, Bombolaye, Chicha Fuerte, Joe Latin Sound Music and The Island Time Drifters. In addition to the live music, there will be outdoor multimedia spectacles every night, projected onto the rain forests of Carenero.

Lost Boys Blues Bar is a part of the Pirate Arts Experience, which is a fine arts resort in Carenero.  As enthusiastic supporters of the performing arts, the bar will be donating 25% of the ticket sales to the Jose Pasito Anderson Band at local high school, Colegio Rogelio Ibarra. “It’s very important to us to support future generations of musicians, as they will be the ones to be taking the stages for years to come,” says Veenstra.

The Lost Boys Blues Bar invites you to be a part of the start of something truly exciting for Bocas del Toro. El Rocktober Fest (Festival Rocktubre) es Una Realidad

Cinco noches y más de 30 horas de música en vivo llegarán a una pequeña isla Caribeña en Bocas del Toro. El Lost Boys Blue Bar de Isla Carenero será el anfitrión del evento más nuevo y audaz de esta temporada: El Festival Rocktober (Rocktubre). La primera de su clase, se dará lugar el 30 y 31 de Octubre y el 1,3 y 4 de Noviembre. El festival de música presenta al veterano rockero de blues, Andy Egert, desde el lejano país Suiza. Andy ha estado viniendo a Panamá por años para ser parte del Jazz & Blues Fest (Festival de Jazz y Blues) en Boquete. Las personas ya están emocionadas de que el Rocktober Fest sea para Bocas del Toro lo que es el Jazz & Blues Fest es para Boquete.

“La idea es de reunir a los amantes del rock and roll, apoya a la escena de música local y atraer a nuevos visitantes a Bocas del Toro. Estamos trabajando para que sea un destino de un evento anual,” dice Eric Veenstra la Directora Creativa del Festival. “Nos gustaría también ver otros lugares en el área de Bocas convertirse en plataformas adicionales para las artes escénicas durante el festival. También estamos trabajando con varios centros turísticos alrededor del archipiélago para que sean anfitriones de nuestros invitados nacionales de Panamá e internacionales.”

Además encabezando el evento estará la leyenda local Cheto Smith. Este nativo de Isla Colon ha sido venerado en las islas por sus interpretaciones musicales conmovedoras de Eric Clapton, Gypsy Kings, The Eagles, entre otros. Él se presentara como solista, al igual que con los The Lost Boys Blues Band, un grupo internacional de músicos que viven en Bocas del Toro. Los cuales  “simplemente no quieren crecer” y les encanta tocar música rock y blues.

El festival también contará con  muchos otros rockeros locales que se presentara en inglés, español y francés, haciéndolo una experiencia musical colorida y multicultural y el Rocktober Fest no está limitada a los sonidos de las guitarras de rock. En el Caribe, la salsa y el calipso siempre la botarán. Algunas de las bandas locales del evento serán Juicy Cake, Perro Vivo, The Little Big Band, Bombolaye, Chicha Fuerte, Joe Latin Sound Music y The Island Time Drifters. Además de la música en vivo, cada noche habrá espectáculos de multimedia al aire libre, proyectados en los bosques lluviosos de Carenero.

El Lost Boys Blue Bar es parte del Pirate Arts Experience, el cual es un centro turístico de bellas artes  en Carenero. Como partidarios entusiastas de las  artes escénicas, el bar donara el 25% de la venta de los boletos a la Banda Jose Pasito Anderson de la escuela secundaria local, el Colegio Rogelio Ibarra. “Es muy importante para nosotros el poder apoyar a las futuras generaciones de músicos, ya que ellos serán los que se apoderaran de los escenarios en los siguientes años,” dice Veenstra.
