On November 23, 2022, Bocas lost another special soul, Rick Bone.
His family, his friends and The Bocas Breeze would like to pay tribute to this much loved character of
Bocas del Toro. Rick was a perpetually smiling, laid back soul, blessed to experience a life full of living –
from family man to ice road trucker to 15 years of paradise living in his island home on Bastimentos Island. His given name was Richard Hedge, though he was known to all in Bocas del Toro as Rick Bone.
Many had the pleasure of leisurely afternoons enjoying rum, telling tales and watching some of the most
awesome sunsets on earth from his balcony high above the water. Rick could often be found weekends
occupying the left most stool at the Blue Coconut, home of his dear friend Sheilagh.
Of late his health began to fade as he was stricken by cancer. His step daughter Michelle and long time friend Kevin came to care for him in his last months and were with him at the end. Rick is survived by his son Robert Eric Hedge, Kelly Hedge and Cynthia Cordova.
There will be a Celebration of Rick’s life to be held at Blue Coconut on Tuesday, December 6 (rain date
Wednesday, December 7). The celebration will be from 1pm to 4:30pm and all of Rick’s Bocas friends are
encouraged to attend. Light fare will be served and bar service will be available.
The Blue Coconut is closed to the public on those days. The wearing of SUITS is encouraged (bathing variety). Come and tell tales, laugh, swim and help us celebrate the joy Rick Bone has brought into to our lives.
