The Third Annual Bocas del Toro Regatta is Coming!
Once a year the sailing community of Bocas del Toro gets together for a friendly race. The event is coordinated and hosted by the Bocas Marina. This year’s regatta will take place on Sunday, February 20th. It will begin around noon with the starting line being between the Black Magic pirate ship and a large conspicuous trawler.
You can watch the race from several viewing spots including Pier 19 Restaurant & Bar, Bibi’s on the Beach, Blue Coconut, The Floating Bar and the headquarters at the Calypso Cantina restaurant at the Bocas Marina.
The race consists of 2 laps around a 5 mile course between Bocas Town and Isla Solarte and Isla San Cristobal. The boats compete in mono-hull and multi-hull classes. The start is staggered so that the fastest boats go last. This means that the vessels that cross the finish line first are the actual champions. The local business community is VERY generous in donating prizes to award to the winning racers (see full list of prizes below).
There are hundreds of sailboats that make their home in the various marinas and anchorages here in the archipelago. They contribute much to the local economy and also step up big time for many of the volunteer and charity events throughout the year. This is their big annual event where they come together and have some fun.
For more information contact the Bocas Marina: +507 757-9800 (office), +507 6616-6000 (cell/WhatsApp, Fabian Pereira) or email bocasyachtclub@yahoo.com. There will be a swap meet at the Calypso Cantina on Saturday February 12 at 9am.There the regatta organizers will be collecting the $35 entrance fee and also giving some more race information.

Editor’s Note: We have been covering the Bocas del Toro Regatta since its inception. We would like to give a special shout out to Colin MacRae and the crew of Parlay Revival. In 2018 it was Colin’s inspiration and his collaboration with the Bocas Marina that kicked off this special event. Rumor has it the Parlay Revival has recently returned Bocas del Toro…Will they be participating in the third installment of a regatta they helped establish?

Just seeing this now, sorry! There was no streaming but something for the organizing team to consider for next year.
