Bocas Celebrates “La separación de Panamá de Colombia”
November in Panama is known as “Mes de la Patria”, as many of the country’s patriotic holidays occur during this month. Walking the streets of Bocas Town you’ll be sure to find plenty of Panamanian flags, parades, drumming and people generally having a grand ole time.

Today was the first of many of patriotic celebrations: “La separación de Panamá de Colombia”. In 1903 Panama separated from Colombia on this day after “La Guerra de los Mil Dias” (The Thousand Day War). The isthmus of Panama had been apart of Colombia since 1821, when Colombia won its independence from Spain. That being said, Panama has 2 independence days!
There’s more information on all the Panamanian “Mes de la Patria” Holidays coming your way in our November issue. Stay tuned, but in the meantime: enjoy the parades!
