Bocas is bello– beautiful that is, and a new group is working to maintain the beauty of Bocas. Their name is B.E.L.L.O., which stands for Bocas Ecológico Limpio Lindo y Organziado (Bocas Ecological Clean Beautiful and Organized) and they’ve been working together for about a month now. Aside from having an awesome acronym for a name, they also have some really great ideas.

The focus of B.E.L.L.O. is recycling, but is not limited to recycling. They are interested in any activities that improve the environment and increase awareness in the community about these issues.

Each month they will execute a new campaign. Last month they volunteered to do a free residential trash pick-up just before Feria del Mar (the fair). This month the initiative is the “Park Clean Up and Beautification”.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week (October 11th,12th and 13th) from 7 AM to 4 PM, B.E.L.L.O. invites anyone and everyone to help with their clean up and beautification of the park; Parque Simón Bolivar, located between 2nd and 3rd street in Bocas Town. With your help, the park benches and walls will be cleaned, scraped and repainted.

B.E.L.L.O. has raised funds for some of the materials a couple of different ways. They raffled off 10 passion fruit pies at Cable Chicho on September 24th and have been collecting donations at Spanish by the Sea, Habla Ya and Hostel Heike. Other materials have been donated, but there is still a need for more paint, bleach, gloves and brushes. If you can’t donate your time, but are willing to donate any of these materials, your collaboration would be much appreciated. Drinks and snacks for the volunteers are more than welcome.

If you’re interested in joining B.E.L.L.O., their meetings are held every Tuesday at 4pm at La Buguita Café.
