The Bocas Research Station Celebrates Earth Day 2016 by Marlon Smith

This year in Bocas, there was more than just a celebration for Earth Day. It was a public event involving children of all ages and participation came from both public and private schools. Throughout the days leading up to Earth Day, many activities transpired: there were beach clean-ups in Bluff, Carenero and the Cabañas.

On April 22nd (Earth Day) there was a parade in the park as well as a fair in which students from the Sea Turtle Conservancy and the School for Field Studies were able to present different environmental topics. For this event, every school in the archipelago was invited, including: la Republica de Nicaragua, Bet-El, San Cristobal, Bocas del Drago and Tangerine. Bluff, Carenero and las Cabañas were the beaches where the clean-ups were held in honor of Earth Day. It couldn’t have been done without the support of Ancon Expedition Bocas, Habla Ya Spanish School, Aqua Lounge, Gran Kahuna and Mini Super Isla Colon. Many thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers!
