Editors Note: May 2016

Instead of a note from the editor, this month we’re going to go with a note written from Earl Meck to Julio Cotes Surgeon (of Hotel Vista Mar) about his stay in the hospital. The health care on the island is a topic that comes up frequently. Well, Earl had a great experience in Isla Colon’s hospital and he’s eager to share with us:

Julio,

As you know I was in the hospital here beginning Feb 1 and ending Feb 11. I think it is human nature to complain when things do not go right. I think it is also normal for people not to give credit when credit is deserved and due. I wish to thank all the doctors who attended me, Doctora Lue, Dr. Henry Hogdsen, and Doctora Soledad Herrera, all the nurses, IV therapists, kitchen and all others who provided me a comfortable hospital stay, with no negatives. My care and follow up was excellent. Sometimes you just have to say thank you to the ones who make a difference.

Excellent and adequate health care is not just brick and mortar. It resides in the heart of the people who care.
