Wildlife Conservation with SNIPS

The Conscious Market, a monthly event at AquaLounge on Isla Carenero brought to us by Cacao Blessings, donated a percentage of the vendor sales at the market on June 15 to benefit the S.N.I.P. Bocas’ Spay & Neuter Incentive Program. A raffle and silent auction with prizes donated by local businesses took place while Calypso Joe and the Bocas Beats set the mood. The Conscious Market  has grown quickly in popularity bringing together local micro-entrepreneurs, artists, farmers, therapists and more who are looking to make a positive impact on the local economy and a fine choice to partner with a program that is focusing on conservation. Because of the June Conscious Market, SNIP was able to execute a successful clinic at Bluff on June 29.

S.N.I.P. is a group of volunteers here working to educate and aid the local community in the betterment of their animal’s health through spay/neuter and vet care. S.N.I.P.  started as a group of volunteers that worked together on a project ‘fixing’ a group of animals on the island and has grown with the goal of helping further this necessary cause here. The program has already received a great deal of support from the community including generous donations that go directly to surgery, hygiene, post-surgery medications and addressing health issues.

Over 30 generous local businesses donated raffle prizes and auction items. Between the silent auction and the raffle, S.N.I.P. raised around $1,600. This paid for a spay/neuter clinic for the indigenous communities in Bluff 6/29. The next Conscious Market on July 13 is raising funds once more for this program. Because of the STC and CARES, they were able to bring in a veterinarian from Panama City to help Dr. Gloria treat 30 dogs 3 cats and handful of puppies and kittens received vitamins and deworming. There will be more of these events happening throughout July.

Go and check out S.N.I.P Bocas on Facebook to donate to the cause and also find out about more events and projects that are being planned for the group.
