New Private Middle/High School in BDT

In August of this year Bocas Academy will open for students in grades 6-12. As an extension of the MK12 High School Diploma program Bocas Academy will be AdvancEd accredited to grant diplomas from the state of Missouri to all graduates. MK12 is a highly successful blended learning program from the University of Missouri being used by schools in over 25 countries including Brazil and Honduras. By using the MK12 program all core subjects will be taught at individual 6th – 12th grade levels with no combined classes. Most core classes will be taught by both an online and onsite teacher with a minimum of a Master’s degree. Spanish will be taught for all students at Spanish by the Sea and will be based on ability levels. The school calendar will follow the traditional August to May school year, recognizing all Panamanian holidays and will use a modified block scheduling format.

The founder and director of the school is Dr. Robert Hodges, a 39 year educator from the United States. When asked to share his vision for the school, Hodges states, “We have a vision to make this a true community school, raising additional funds through gifts and grants to give scholarships to native Panamanian young people who desire to earn a high school diploma but could never afford tuition. This can open the door for them to attend college.”
