About Popa Paradise
Popa Paradise is one of only a few developed properties on Isla Popa. It is a beautiful 30 minute boat ride away from the hustle and bustle of Bocas Town, located on the main island of Isla Colon. The hotel sits atop a hill overlooking the clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, with two private beaches and 25 acres of manicured jungle garden. There are 16 rooms, all equipped with the finest of linens, imported furniture from Bali, air conditioning, hot water and other modern amenities for you to enjoy. There are two large elegant Junior Suites, and of course the Executive Suite, which is a “work of art”, everything granite and marble with a full kitchen, and wrap around balcony overlooking the ocean on three sides.
Popa Paradise is completely off the grid, running on generators and solar panels. There are water wells and a rooftop rainwater catchment system – everything is done as eco-friendly and local as possible. A lot of the fruit and vegetables are grown on site. The land was cleared away years ago for cattle ranching, but after the hotel was built the forest was restored and the gardens grown with stunning results. Toucans were absent on the island before, but now they’re back. You can expect to see hawks, eagles, all sorts of bird species, blue morpho butterflies, sloths, ocelots, etc. The marine life at the resort is even more impressive.
“Popa probably has the greatest amount of reef around any of the Bocas Islands. You’ll see that the reef around all of Popa runs into sort of four or five layers which makes, in my mind, for the best snorkeling and diving in Bocas. There are just tons and tons of the most beautiful reef,” says General Manager Dyllan Mitchell.
Snorkeling, diving, surfing, fishing, kayaking, swimming, sailing, yoga, massages, or just plain old relaxing by the pool with a cocktail; all are possible at Popa. And it’s a totally customized experience for each guest: “We can order you whatever you want, outside of good weather,” says Dyllan.
The team at Popa Paradise brings this same flexibility to your destination wedding: they can manage every detail if you like; or they can lay back, provide the hotel’s usual outstanding service and let you plan your special day. However you choose, picture your feet in the sand (or in the garden), surrounded by your loved ones, looking into your partner’s eyes and saying “I do”; all amidst the peace and tranquility of Popa Paradise.
